Abstract Wax
Using colored wax shavings students can create an Abstract Expressionistic piece of art.
This process includes: using (school safe) scissors to shave different colored crayons, layering the shavings onto poster board or a heavier weighted paper, cover the shavings with wax paper, applying heat from an iron (hopefully an old one), letting artwork cool and slowly peeling the wax paper away.
Special notes: Less is more. The shavings melt and expand so if you have too much you'll end up melting a puddle of wax together. It's best to press the iron down, lift, and press again. If you press down and slide the iron you'll smear the wax together as well. Pressing is better. You can add more shavings after its cool to the touch. Experiment with different shapes and colors of wax shavings.
